Samsung Introduces New 2TB EcoGreen F4EG HDD

When it comes to the world of storage, power savings can be a big deal. One way to get power savings in HDDs is to reduce the number of platters needed to reach a given storage capacity. This means the drive can use less heads saving power.

Samsung has unveiled a new addition to the EcoGreen HDD family called the F4EG. The new drive is the follow up to the F3EG HDD that has already been available. The new F4EG HDD uses three platters to reach its 2TB storage capacity, rather than the four platters used by the F3EG.

Each of the three platters the new HDD uses has 667GB of storage. The new drive is also 23% more power efficient in standby mode and 19% better in standby time performance. The drive has a 32MB buffer and is a 3.5-inch drive.
